Crop Value Chain Specialist (Ref: DDG-P4D/CVC/S/CH/04/18)

The Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation (TAAT) is a program initiated by the
African Development Bank (AfDB) as part of its Feed Africa Initiative. The main objective of the
program is to improve the business of agriculture across Africa by raising agricultural productivity,
mitigating risks and promoting diversification and processing in 18 agricultural value chains within 8
Priority Intervention Areas. The program is being implemented by IITA in close collaboration with
other CGIAR Centers, FARA, AGRA, national agricultural research and extension systems and private
sector partners. It involves close partnership between the AfDB and other developmental partners such
as the World Bank, BMGF, USAID and others. The Clearinghouse (CH) has been set up to operate as
a semi-autonomous component of the Program. The objective of the CH is to take proven agricultural
technologies to scale in a commercially sustainable fashion through the establishment of a mechanism
to facilitate partnerships and provide access to expertise required to design, implement, and monitor
progress of crop, livestock, and aquaculture campaigns.
Position Responsibilities:
The Crop Value Chain Specialist will be based at the Clearing House Complex in Cotonou, Republic
of Benin. He/she will report to the Head of the Clearing House.
Specific responsibilities of the Crop Value Chain Specialist will include, but not limited to the
following:
• Guide, inform and oversee the development of selected crop value chains.
• Undertake value chain analysis on the selected commodities and develop upgrading strategies for
the development of the commodities.
• Provide advice on goods, works and services required for the development of the various
commodity value chains at producer level.
• Advice on the development of financial tools for use by farmers and other rural value chain
entities; and
• Provide appropriate technical support to RMCs in commercializing products of small holder
farmers and other value chain actors.
Educational Qualifications and Experience
• A degree in the Agricultural sciences with proven experience in value chain development; a
postgraduate degree in agri-related fields is an advantage.
• At least 10 years working experience in value chain development in sub-Saharan Africa.
• Experience in development of Public Private Partnership.
