Job Title: Senior Tool-pusher
Department: Rig Operations
Job Summary:
- A focal point in all efforts to optimize safe operational performance of the rig through continuous improvement.
- Direct liaison with the Client representatives on all issues related in ensuring that the objectives of the well are being met.
- Assist in supervising the drilling operations and associated activities. Assist in optimizing the planning of the well construction steps.
- Meet and exceed KSM’s.
Duties and Responsibilities:
EHSQ Management
- Actively participate at Pre-tour meetings, THINK Drills and risk assessments. Authority I
- Help and encourage the crews with safe working practices. Authority I
- Monitor adherence to established procedures and evaluate the Authority II
People Development
- Mentor, develop and train Drillers and Assistant Drillers to ensure they are competent to work at their current job level. Authority II
- Provide leadership and motivation to rig personnel in the OIM’s absence. Authority II
- Assist in training to ensure all drilling personnel are competent to perform their allocated job. Authority II.
Operations:
- Proactive in planning, communicating and anticipating the Client’s needs. Authority I
- This to include planning for the next 24 to 72 hours, and to assist in ensuring current operations are run as efficiently and safely as possible.
- Assist in ensuring that the working relationship with the Client is conducive to high operational & safety performance. Authority I
- Where necessary review the drilling program at the earliest opportunity for Authority I
- Completeness and suggest improvements. This will bring detailed practical rig knowledge to the well planning and critical to ensure all equipment and tools are available and ready when needed.
- As required attend onshore client meetings, including pre-spud meetings to Authority II
- Input practical rig knowledge into the well planning process.
- To actively participate in daily meetings with the crews at Authority I
- The start of each shift to review operations for the next 24 to 72 hours with reference to rig target time and implementation of previous lessons learnt and opportunities. Authority I
- Ensure that the crews are aware of where they are against the plan, e.g. depth vs. time graphs, tripping speeds et cetera. This does not mean that the Performance Toolpusher is responsible for the generation of the depth vs. time curves, KSM’s et cetera. Authority I
- To be a focal point for, and encourage, any suggestions or idea’s to Authority I
- Enhance the safety and drilling performance. This can be during pre tour,meetings, safety meetings et cetera. Authority I
- To assist with the implementation of any “lessons learnt” that are of Authority II
- Benefit and ensure that feed back is given to the individual crewmembers who have raised lessons and suggestions. Ensure lessons learnt are shared with the Client and Rig Supervisors. Authority I
- To be at the worksite at all relevant times, assisting and overseeing critical operations. Authority I
- Plan and supervise equipment preparation for impending drilling operations. Authority I
- Keep the OIM informed of all events and occurrences likely to cause a deviation from the operational schedule. Authority I
- Recommend adjustments to drilling parameters as necessary so as to improve performance. Authority II
- Train the Drillers and Assistant Drillers on the input for the GRS drilling report. Authority II
- Prepare brief reports to capture improvements, lessons learnt et cetera and on pass to both Client and Crews. Authority I
Education:
- Sound knowledge of the well planning processes.
- Sound knowledge of drilling practices and equipment.
- Ability to challenge existing well construction methods & provide innovative solutions to reduce well
- construction costs and Key Service Measures (KSM’s).
- Ability to engage all of the crew and 3rd party service company personnel to assist in reducing well construction costs and KSM’s.
- Extensive knowledge and use of Global Reporting System (GRS).
- Ability to provide strong leadership.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Knowledge of all technical calculations required for the safe operation of the drilling unit.
- Valid Well Control certificate, and other Safety Training courses (regulatory and non regulatory).
- Valid medical examination and vaccination certificates.
Definition of Decision Making Authority:
Authority I: To act.
Authority II: To act but inform supervisor and/or other interested parties.
Authority III: To obtain supervisor’s approval before acting.
