Role Summary:
We are seeking a Lead Operability Engineer to join the Controls & Operability Engineering team, within GE Onshore Wind Land Constrained product segment.
The Lead Operability engineer is an integral part of the wind turbine design process and the broad scope of responsibility provides an opportunity to significantly contribute to the turbine performance and costs optimization.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Design, implement and validate dynamic and operational control systems that meet wind product needs
- Lead the development and enhancement of control algorithms that increase wind turbine performance, lower mechanical loading of the turbine, while allowing the turbine to run with high availability
- Investigate and analyze complex controls issues occurring in the fleet of installed turbines and develop corrective actions
- Establish first principle wind turbine control methodologies to improve overall system optimization and physics based understanding
- Provide wind turbine controls expertise through all phases of product development
- Provide recommendations through the analysis, preparation and presentation of technical data to internal and external customers
- Write technical documentation, deliver presentations, attend technical design reviews
Qualifications/Requirements:- MS or BS Degree in relevant Engineering field (Control & Automation, Mechanical/ Electrical/ Electronic Engineering, etc.)
- Knowledge of controls system theory, design and applications, preferably for Wind Turbines or other industrial application (aerospace, automotive, transportation, energy systems)
- Experience in first principle modelling, control requirements definition and translation into design
- Proficiency in Matlab - Simulink
- Self-starter, who delivers results with minimal supervision
- Ability to succeed in a global team environment
- Team player with strong communication skills
- Fluent in English (spoken and written

Desired Characteristics:
- Knowledgeable in wind turbine certification, including IEC and GL requirements
- Experienced in modeling and simulating wind turbines in computer simulation codes, such as ADAMS, Bladed, Flex5, and FAST, Simulink or equivalent industry simulation tools
- Experienced in validation of wind turbine simulation codes in comparison to measurement data
- Experience in modeling, controls, dynamics, testing, and design of wind turbines
- Experience with GE Mark VIe controller or similar real time control system
- Greenbelt (internal GE) or Equivalent quality training
- Willingness to travel occasionally
