The Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation (TAAT) is a program initiated by the African
Development Bank (AfDB) as part of its Feed Africa Initiative. The main objective of the program is to
improve the business of agriculture across Africa by raising agricultural productivity, mitigating risks and
promoting diversification and processing in 18 agricultural value chains within 8 Priority Intervention
Areas. The program will be implemented by IITA in close collaboration with other CGIAR Centers,
FARA, AGRA, national agricultural research and extension systems and private sector partners. It will
involve close partnership between the AfDB and other developmental partners such as the World Bank,
BMGF, USAID and others. The Clearinghouse (CH) will be set up to operate as a semi-autonomous
component of the Program. The objective of the CH will be to take proven agricultural technologies to
scale in a commercially sustainable fashion through the establishment of a mechanism to facilitate
partnerships and provide access to expertise required to design, implement, and monitor progress of crop,
livestock, and aquaculture campaigns.
Position Responsibilities
The tasks of the Communication Specialist will include:
Main Responsibilities
• Formulate and implement internal and external communication strategies to further the goals of the
TAAT program.
• Facilitate the follow-up, supervision, monitoring and impact assessment of TAAT program activities
and coordinate contacts between the Clearinghouse and the program stakeholders, especially
implementing partners in the CGIAR and NARES institutions, decision makers in RMC
governments, development finance institutions, the private sector and opinion makers.
Specific Responsibilities
• Collect, research, and prepare, in consultation with project teams, communication materials for
external and internal audiences, including TAAT program partners, the public, and the media.
• Assist in conducting awareness raising campaigns, events, information dissemination workshops, etc.
for target groups of interest to the TAAT Program.
• Develop and package print/web/audiovisual and multimedia materials for the program from different
program activities to publicize program achievements. These materials include handouts, publicity
brochures, direct mail leaflets, multimedia programs, videos and films, feature articles, press releases
and social media content.
• Undertake sporadic field visits to monitor programme implementation and liaise closely with target
groups to identify appropriate communication messages.
• Participate in donor visits for showcasing project progress and achievements.
• Take lead in the production
