UNICEF Nigeria seeks the services of Finance Assistants to provide financial support functions to its operations in the field offices

The successful candidate will under the supervision of the Finance Officer Field office, carry out the following responsibilities:
1. Receive all monies and draft cash receipts within the day of fund receipt. Deposit all receipts into UNICEF authorized bank accounts within the same day or next business day and ensure deposit vouchers are recorded in VISION within 2 days of receipt of funds.
2. Prepares cheques for all cash disbursements checking and verifying the accuracy of amounts being paid and received, and ensuring that all such receipts and payments are accurately coded and catered correctly in the relevant VISION accounting module.
3. Verify and establish completeness and authenticity of the accounting documents provided by Government and Non-Governmental Institutions and verify that they meet the acceptable accounting standards, and have been processed in accordance with the acceptable accounting procedures.
4. Assists in preparation of periodic accounting records by recording receipts and disbursements (ledgers, cash books, vouchers, etc.) and reconciling data for recurring or special reports.
5. Maintains contacts with local banks for verifying accounts status, obtaining approval for cheque clearances, verifying currency exchange rate and similar direct transactions.
6. Monitoring of Receipt of DCT (Annex B) acknowledgment and report outstanding unacknowledged DCTs within 10days of the close of each quarter.
7. Maintain auditable filing system ensuring that vouchers are filed sequentially month by month and that other finance records are duly organized in clearly labeled subject file.
8. Assist in HACT implementation activities and perform any other duties, as required.
Minimum qualification and competencies:
• Completion of secondary education.
• Four years general clerical experience, some of which should be in accounting clerical work.
• Fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of one or two working Languages of the organization an asset.
• Good judgment, organization, analytical and accuracy skills.
• Integrity, honesty and high sense of responsibility
• Good knowledge of computer applications, accounting softwares and database management.
• Good communication and interpersonal and team work skills
• Knowledge of UNICEF procedures/policies an added advantage
• Ability to work effectively and harmoniously in an international and multicultural environment.
• Initiative, passion and commitment to UNICEF’s mission and professional values.
