Position Overview:
Our client requires a Business Development Manager to initiate and generate new business opportunities with various high technology and related companies throughout the U.S. This newly created position will report to the Managing Director and CEO and will be based at the Palo Alto headquarters.
This individual will operate in a highly independent and autonomous fashion with minimal direction as the start up nature of this business will necessitate extensive research in developing lists of potential customers to be contacted. Contacts and relationships with key executives within those companies will ultimately lead to discussions where the full range of services offered by the company, can be presented. Initially, the business focus will concentrate on Silicon Valley and Bay Area based companies. These companies would include the full range of technology related product and service businesses including E-commerce, Software, Hardware and Peripherals, and Biotech. The natural markets beyond the Bay Area, which will be the secondary area of focus, include all of the high technology centers throughout the U. S
Ideal Candidate Profile:
The ideal candidate for this position will be a personable, energetic and growth oriented individual who can successfully initiate sales opportunities with executives in various high technology companies and markets. This will require a high degree of self initiative as the successful incumbent will have the ability to identify potential company clients, contact and access their key management personnel, and to develop a basis for formal business presentations to their company. Prior experience working for a Japanese company or a US based Japanese company is a must.
The nature of this assignment will require a strong sales and marketing orientation and a proven record of success in generating leads and sales. Prior experience in technology is not a requirement but the ability to learn technical terms in various technology industry segments and a familiarity with the high technology in general will be a critical asset in this role. Minimally, the successful candidate will have at least 3 years of sales and/or sales and business development experience along with a BS in business, economics or a related field. This position will be an ideal career growth opportunity for an individual ready to assume a greater level of responsibility, autonomy and success.
Bilingual capabilities (Japanese/English) would be highly desirable, but not a requirement for this position. However, the ability to understand, respect and operate in this bi-cultural business environment will be an absolute requirement. This will necessitate an individual who is flexible and adaptable, empathetic and sensitive to differences in business practices and cultural norms. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills are critical assets for this position.
Compensation and Benefits:
This position will pay a competitive salary package which includes an attractive base salary and an incentive bonus target. Benefits currently include medical and dental insurance, vacation and paid holidays and auto mileage reimbursement. A 401k program and life and disability insurance programs are under negotiation and are expected to be in place shortly. No relocation assistance will be provided, as the ideal candidate should be a resident of the San Francisco Bay Area and be familiar with the Bay Area and Silicon Valley marketplace.
